Riverbend Park vs. Coral Cove Beach:
Which Location Is Right for You?
If you're looking in Jupiter, Florida, two locations stand out for completely different reasons: Riverbend Park and Coral Cove Beach.
I've photographed families, couples, and maternity sessions at both, and while they're only a short drive apart, they create entirely different stories. Whether you're dreaming of windswept ocean views or quiet woodland paths, Jupiter has it all.
Planning a portrait session in Jupiter, Florida means choosing between two of the most breathtaking and distinct backdrops in South Florida. Whether you want the dramatic, rugged coastline of the Atlantic or the old Florida charm of moss-draped cypress trees, there's truly a location to match the story you want to tell.
As a Palm Beach County photographer, I've photographed families, couples, and maternity sessions at both Coral Cove Beach and Riverbend Park. Most of my clients either already have a location that's meaningful to them, or they tell me the feeling they're hoping for, a beach at sunset, a quiet park, somewhere adventurous, or somewhere peaceful. From there, I help narrow down the location that best fits their vision, where they live, and the experience they want to have.
Rugged Coastline:
Blowing Rocks
For anyone dreaming of dramatic ocean views, rugged limestone formations, and a backdrop that feels like you've stepped onto a tropical island, Blowing Rocks Preserve and neighboring Coral Cove Beach offer one of the most unique portrait settings in Palm Beach County.
The Vibe: Whimsical, epic, romantic, and adventurous.
One of the reasons I love recommending Coral Cove is because it's incredibly convenient. You have free parking, restrooms, a playground for little ones, and easy public beach access. Since it's connected to Blowing Rocks Preserve, you still get that iconic rocky coastline without needing to plan around the preserve's operating hours.
It's honestly one of those locations I'm almost hesitant to tell everyone about because it still feels like one of Jupiter's hidden gems.
Best Time to Shoot
Unlike Riverbend, where the tree canopy creates beautiful light earlier in the evening, Coral Cove shines during golden hour. The hour leading up to sunset creates warm, glowing light across the beach, while the limestone rocks catch the changing colors of the sky.
As much as I love sunset here, sunrise is honestly my favorite. On Florida's east coast, the sun rises over the Atlantic, creating beautiful golden light across the water, and the quiet beach before the day begins is an experience that never gets old.

Maternity Session Tip
One of the things I love most about maternity sessions here is the incredible variety. Whether you're barefoot on the sand, standing among the dramatic limestone rocks, or walking along the shoreline, the scenery creates portraits that feel both timeless and adventurous. More importantly, we'll choose a location and timing that keeps you comfortable, because that's always more important than forcing a particular backdrop.
Family Session Tip
The rocky shoreline creates incredible scenery, but it also requires a little more attention when little feet are exploring. For families with younger children, I love that Coral Cove has nearby bathrooms, a playground, and plenty of sandy beach to take breaks, reset, and let kids simply be kids before we continue the session.
Old Florida Charm:
Riverbend Park
For anyone who loves lush greenery, towering trees, and a peaceful, rustic setting, Riverbend Park is one of the most versatile portrait locations in Palm Beach County.
The Vibe: Earthy, warm, timeless, and classic.
Riverbend feels unmistakably Florida. Between the massive trees, winding trails, wooden boardwalks, open fields, tall grasses, river access, and even the historic fireplace ruins tucked away inside the park, it's amazing how many completely different looks we can create without ever leaving one location.
One of my favorite surprises is that it's not uncommon to spot deer wandering through the park, making the whole experience feel even more magical.
Best Time to Shoot
Unlike the beach, where I typically schedule sessions right at sunset, Riverbend photographs best a little earlier in the day. Because of the dense tree canopy, the most beautiful light often happens 1–2 hours before sunset, when the sun is high enough to filter through the trees but low enough to create a warm, storybook glow. Waiting until the very end of the day can actually leave much of the park in deep shade.
Whether you want lush forest, towering banyan trees, historic stone ruins, open fields, wooden bridges, or quiet trails, Riverbend offers an incredible variety of scenery without ever needing to leave the park.

Maternity Session Tip
The wooden bridges, quiet walking paths, and natural scenery create beautiful leading lines that gently draw attention to your growing baby bump without overwhelming the image.
Family Session Tip
Riverbend is one of my favorite places for families with younger children because there's so much room to explore. I don't think a location alone makes a session less stressful—letting kids play, laugh, and simply be themselves does—but Riverbend naturally encourages that kind of experience.
How to Prepare for Your Jupiter Photo Session
No matter which location you choose, South Florida weather requires a little planning.
Beat the Heat
Whenever possible, I recommend scheduling sessions near sunrise or sunset. The temperatures are cooler, the light is softer, and everyone, especially little ones are usually much happier.
Wardrobe Choices
For Coral Cove Beach & Blowing Rocks, soft neutrals, creams, sandy tones, seafoam greens, dusty blues, and pastels photograph beautifully against the ocean. But don't feel limited to light colors. A flowing black dress against the limestone rocks can create a dramatic, editorial look, while rich jewel tones or even vibrant colors can make you stand out beautifully against the coastal scenery.
For Riverbend Park, earthy colors like rust, mustard, sage green, cream, terracotta, and warm neutrals naturally complement the surrounding greenery. At the same time, colors that contrast with the landscape, like the deep reds in the photos above, can create striking images because they naturally draw your eye to the people without overwhelming the scene.
Rather than trying to match everyone exactly, choose a color palette and let each person's outfit complement one another. Coordinated almost always photographs better than identical. The goal isn't to wear the "right" color, it's to choose clothing that complements the environment while still feeling like you. Your outfits should enhance the story of your session, not compete with it.
Whenever possible, avoid large logos, graphic tees, and overly busy patterns. Those details naturally pull attention away from your faces, which should always be the focus of your portraits. Fine stripes and repeating geometric patterns can also create distracting visual effects in photographs. I also recommend avoiding neon colors. They might look fun in person, but bright sunlight can reflect those colors back onto your skin, making faces appear tinted pink, green, or yellow in photos.
Choosing the Right Location
There's no single "best" location. If you've always imagined your family running barefoot along the shoreline while waves crash behind you, Coral Cove may be exactly what you're looking for. If you picture towering trees, peaceful trails, wide-open fields, and classic Florida landscapes, Riverbend might be your perfect fit. And if you already have a location that's meaningful to your family, I'm always happy to photograph there too.
Every session starts with a conversation, and together we'll choose the location that best fits your vision, not mine.
A Note for Expecting Moms
When planning maternity photos, I actually care less about the location than I do about how you're feeling. Most expecting moms find somewhere around 30–34 weeks to be the sweet spot, your bump is beautifully visible, but you're usually still comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the experience. On the beach, in the woods, or even in the comfort of your own home, the goal isn't to create the trendiest maternity photos. It's to create photographs that feel like you.
